Brain Rot and Manifest

 Brain Rot

It is term that refers to the supposed deterioration of a person's mental or intellectual state. Often attributed to overconsumption of low-quality or trivial content, especially online.

The concept gained significant attention in 2024, when Oxford University Press named it the Word of the Year.

The idea is that spending too much time on mindless activities, like scrolling through social media or watching endless videos, can negatively impact cognitive health.

While there's no scientific evidence to support the idea of "brain rot" as a medical condition, it's used metaphorically to express concerns about the effects of excessive screen time and low-quality digital content on mental well-being.

Manifest

The term "manifest" has several meanings and uses:

Verb: To manifest something means to show, display, or make it evident. For example, "She manifested great courage during the crisis."

Adjective: When something is manifest, it is clear or obvious. For instance, "The joy on his face was manifest."

Noun (Document): A manifest is a list of the cargo, passengers, and crew on a ship, aircraft, or other vehicle, used for official records.

Noun (Manifestation): This refers to the act of becoming visible or noticeable. For example, "The first manifest of spring was the blossoming of flowers."

Cambridge word of the year

The term "manifest" was chosen due to its significant increase in lookups and its widespread use across various media.

The word "manifest" traditionally means to display or show a quality or feeling.

However, in recent years, it has taken on a new sense in popular culture, referring to the practice of imagining achieving something you want, with the belief that doing so will make it more likely to happen.

The trend gained traction during the pandemic and continued to grow in popularity, especially on social media platforms like TikTok.

Many celebrities and influencers spoke about manifesting their success, which contributed to the word's widespread use.
